Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and several other passengers were briefly trapped inside an IndiGo flight after its main door failed to open upon landing in Raipur on Tuesday. Flight 6E 6312 from Delhi landed at Veer Narayan International Airport at 2:25 pm, but passengers were unable to deboard for nearly 30 minutes due to a gate malfunction.
The cabin crew reportedly faced issues as the aircraft’s cabin screen, linked to the door mechanism, showed no signal, preventing them from unlocking the exit. This led to a brief moment of panic and confusion inside the plane and among airport staff outside.
Also onboard were Raipur Mayor Meenal Chaubey and Congress MLA Chaturi Nand. According to Baghel, efforts to open the door continued for half an hour before passengers were finally allowed to disembark. "There was a technical issue with the gate, but eventually it was resolved and everyone got out safely," he said.
The airline has not yet issued an official statement on the malfunction. No injuries were reported, but the incident raised concerns about aircraft safety protocols and emergency response readiness.
